Voice Rehabilitation

What is a voice difficulty?

A voice problem can impact both children and adults in a variety of ways. Some of these ways include:

  • A voice that cannot be heard and is too soft

  • A croaky, shaky or hoarse vocal quality

  • A voice that becomes tired, scratchy or uncomfortable after talking

  • Feeling as though you need to cough or clear your throat after talking

  • After talking, your throat may feel fatigued.

  • A voice that has abnormal or varied pitch that is different from people similar to your age.

How can a Speech Pathologist help?

A Speech Pathologist can assess, diagnose, and help treat voice disorders.

Our Speech Pathologists apply evidence-based practices to all areas of voice management, and incorporate effective intervention management strategies into therapy (prevention of further vocal damage, education to patient and family regarding vocal strategies, incorporating the patients functional needs into goal setting).

Our clinicians ensure they are informed of current research and advances in knowledge of voice disorder treatment.

Our Speech Pathologists Tegan Ison and Karin McIntyre are both certified Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) clinicians. "LSVT Loud is a behavioural program designed to create sustained improvement in speech and voice function. It's an evidence-based treatment that helps patients with speech problems increase their vocal loudness and ability to be understood".
